Bad hair day...
Posted By: palmor, 04-28-2008, 06:17 AM

..ever feel like the hair on the back of your head is sticking up . Another one of those not perfect bird photos (very dreary day, too far away etc etc) but fun for me since the bird was stalking fish in the little pools of water and because he had no idea he had that hair sticking up like that hehe

Another reason I like it is because I took it from a little bit lower of an angle then I normally do and it seems to have gotten a nice DOF (at least I think so)

Great shot, spot on focus and awesome contrast!

I love the hair, must have been windy eh? Poor bird having to wade around in such weather, you should have offered him stay at your place for a while to freshen up.

That looks like me early in the morning. I can feel the force of the wind viewing the shot. The grass in the surrounding tends to succumb to the force of nature too

Very nice Palmor I don't think it is too far away, it makes a natural setting that is very pleasing to the eye

Beautiful image.
Between Tokina 400 5.6 and Sigma 70-200 with 2x TC, which one you prefer and why? Reason I am asking is I want to go for Tele for Birds and I cannot afford too many lenses. I am torn between Sigma 70-200 and DA 300 and now Tokina 400 5.6 has added to woes.

Great image. That's a very good composition and focus and an interesting angle.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the feedback. I think it confirms the things I like about the image

My preference for wildlife is the Tokina, the main reasons being that it is so much smaller and lighter then the Sigma that it is easier to handhold. It also focuses faster then the Sigma combo. IQ wise they are probably pretty close. I think the Tokina exhibits more purple fringing then the Sigma combo but I haven't had an image that was ruined by it yet. The last advantage is that it is should be $100's of dollars cheaper then the Sigma (they run from $450 to $650 on ebay)

The advantages of the Sigma combo are that you have essentially two really good pieces of glass. The 70-200 lens by itself is just great. The other advantage is that it is a new lens with a warranty.

Your other option is the Sigma 100-300 f/4 with 1.4x TC. People give nothing but great reviews of this lens and combo as well.

Hope that helps, let me know if I can answer anymore questions about it.
