Thanks Jer! Glad I got a chance to take a couple of photos of the autumn colour.

something we don't get to see too much of Rob here in the desert, very nice composition and a thought provoking message.

Thanks Bob! Generally in Australia we don't see autumn as leaves changing colour - eucalypts are evergreen. But in some cities there's deciduous trees from the northern hemisphere planted - like on the street in Sydney where I grew up, and here in Canberra. Canberra was designed by Walter and Marion Burley Griffin, who were from Illinois. There's quite a lot of imported trees here - oaks, willows, maples, birch and even redwoods. There was a grove of redwoods and sequoias planted in the 1930's in the mountains near here, but sadly they were lost in the 2003 firestorm. Still, autumn in Canberra is quite colourful! You get to see the colours of the rock and the soil.

thanks for the information Rob, that is really sad about the loss of the redwoods/sequoia trees.

Especially because they were around 80 years old. It would be nice to have a place where I could see sequoias without having to go to California! I don't think the forestry people plant arboreta anymore. I just checked and there's some planted in the National Arboretum in 2008. I just have to live another 40 years or so for them to be enjoyable... There's some old Redwoods near Canberra airport, but the grove has suffered in the recent droughts and I think they need to do more to protect the trees - perhaps plant some other species around the outside of the grove to protect the redwoods a bit better.

Thanks Heinrich! I've been feeling a bit down, so it was a good excuse for haiku.

Thanks! I just realised that the lens is reported incorrectly in the post on PF. It was the DA35 limited macro not the Tamron. The DA35 bokeh is nicer than the Tamron.
