I am not quite sure if the European tradition of Walburgis Night or 1st of May eve is known to everyone, but I should think many of us living in Nordic Countries have spend nice time celebrating the Walburgis Night. Here in Finland it is a great party evening with people gathering in streets both in the eve of April 30th and the next day having picnic in the parks.
