Just by chance...
Posted By: Heinrich Lohmann, 04-30-2008, 08:09 PM

....yesterday we had to drive into Calgary for my wife's piano recital/exam and she had to be there early. I had 45 minutes to kill so I took the K10D for a quick walk in the neighbourhood. Nothing much to see, took a couple of shots overlooking the Noose Creek Valley but low and behold you open your eyes and there are all kinds of things to take a quick picture of. (Before you ask, I did make it back in time for the recital)

All with the 16-45

Comments are always appreciated,

Wow love the backlighting on the flowers. It really brings out the hair on the flower stems!

Interesting lines of the highways across the landscape Heinrich. The scene looks vaguely familiar. Which side of Calgary were you? Beautiful close ups of the flowers. The colours and textures look great. Nice compositions and exposures as well. The 16-45 looks like a great lens.

Heinrich you've just taken a picture of a white elephant!

Brilliant shot of Wind Flowers those are very rare in deed and only grow in one spot here in Illinois and aren't common anywhere else. You definitely should get back to get some more shots of those little fury guys to add to the scrapbook.

Hi Paul, the pictures were taken from the west side of highway #2 and the first one is a view to the northeast and shows the intersection of highways #1 and #2. #2 is also known as the Deerfoot or as of late the Q. E. 2 The second one is from the same location but looks south east.

Thank you Scott, outside of the dandelion the wild crocus is just about the first flower in the Spring.

Take care,

Thanks Chris, I've never heard them called wind flowers before. We know them as wild crocus but there are a quite a few varieties as to color size and shape. The ones in the Yukon were smaller than these. BTW, around here they are not rare.

Take care,
