New Lunar Shots!
Posted By: Adam, 01-26-2007, 11:03 PM

I decided to take my 500mm out for a second spin today, and here's what I came up with:

SMC Pentax 500mm F4.5
1/1000s, F4.5, ISO 100, SR On

As I mentioned in the gallery entry, I only edited the levels and colors a bit in photoshop. I also took a few shots with a teleconverter, and although the resolution doubled, it was not worth it because of a significant loss in IQ: https://www.pentaxforums.com/gallery/images/1/1_Moon2.jpg

What do you think?

This is a shot showing quite a bit of details. Amazing your shutter speed is relatively fast with ISO 100.

Cropping much?

SR on means you hand held it right?

Great shot Adam, looks like you've got a keeper in that lens! If you ever get bored with it let me know.

Are you joking? The angle of elevation to the moon yesterday was about 70 degrees, and the lens weighs 3.2kg...

SR was on because the lens shook the entire tripod, and turst me, it really helped!

That's a 100% crop.

I tried every possible combination of shutter speed and aperture, and the aperture value turned out to be completely meaningless. The faster the shutter speed, the sharper the image

Never had a long lens so would never have thought to use SR on tripod.
So do you attribute the faster shutter speed=better shot because you were still getting some movement in the tripod?

Yes, and also because the lens appears to be extremely sharp wide-open.
