GBH and a spring day
Posted By: Peter Zack, 05-03-2008, 05:51 PM

Spring seems to be hitting the east. I need to get some rubber boots for walking in the marshes. The sneakers were soaked in short order.

Great shots Peter, I really like the first one I'll take wet over frozen any day

Nice Peter,
I like number 3 the best, nice movement and I like the patches of water. Might make a nice panorama shot, cut off top and bottom and just leave the bird.

Number 1 is nice too, again the movement is good.

Don't like number 2, hurts my eyes. What is that going on in the grass behind the bird?

Peter, great first shot.

With TC, the bokeh can turn really ugly for Fa* 300 f4.5; this is unfortunately the same for f2.8 version as well. 300mm can not take highlight in background bokeh too well

Yes that's true with a bright sunny day. Using either TC causes a rough looking bokeh when the background is busy with highlights. There was a ton of sun reflecting off the new grass that was covered in water (it's in a marsh). The last shot was a poor shooting angle since the camera was pointed directly at the sun. I was just happy to be able to capture the bird in flight and be able to track it with the AF.

This wildlife shooting is a completely different learning curve than taking a picture of a flower....

Great shots Peter. Wetland but it looks like you're getting more sun than we are at the moment.

Thanks Paul and Dave, Yes beautiful here again today. Spring and summer are here. I am enjoying the FA* probably the best lens I have now. I see why Tom Lusk basically only uses that lens. The TC with backgrounds is tricky and I will have to be more careful.

I know the Sigma 500 f4.5 (Walter's lens) is next....
