Top Tip! Post your forum pictures (flickr/picasa) easy!
Posted By: cputeq, 05-04-2008, 06:32 AM

I was given this tip by a member of the Arstechnica photo thread and love it.

If you're a user of either Flickr or Picasa, this will save you tons of time when posting to "UBB" type message boards such as this.

OILU - Openforum Image Link Utility

Simply copy/paste the text that Picasa or Flickr gives you as the picture link, paste it into the top box at that page, and hit "process".

You can then copy the "Openforum" text it gives you into a forum page like here at PentaxForums and you automatically have a picture that is also a clickable link to flickr!

Very easy and beats hand-editing links! I was very thankful when they told me about this! Enjoy!

Note -- If you're posting large photos, just add "WIDE" (without the quotes) right after the <IMG> tags that you paste into your message.

Another Test

Prodded by this thread, I uploaded a bunch of photos to my SmugMug gallery, some of which I'd previously uploaded as attachments here or on pnet. My impression is that those photos look a lot better in SmugMug than uploaded directly from my computer so I'm going try to post the same pic each way with this post to see if there a qualitative difference in appearance.

Here's the SmugMug

I've uploaded the same shot as an attachment from my PC (below.) It seems to me that the SmugMug version is distinctly better--why is that?

I agree, the first is better. I've always complained about how my photos look on ImageShack compared to my computer. I'm happier with the Picasa version, so I'm really glad to have seen this thread.

Thanks for the second opinion, Dan--I'm glad it's not my tired old eyes playing tricks. So I may be a (little bit) better photographer than I thought, then

You're right this was a very valuable tip: although slight, that improvement in clarity is important.
