World War I pistol
Lens: Pentax 50mm 1.4 Camera: Pentax K-3 Photo Location: Phoenix, AZ ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/25s Aperture: F8

This is an original WW I-era U.S. Model of 1911 pistol, together with a magazine pouch, holster and pistol belt from the same era. I sought to create a tableau showing the pistol as it might have looked while a doughboy in France began to clean his pistol in the shade of a tree. The lighting was very tricky, as I was dealing with direct sunlight, spotty shadowing, and the need for detail in the pistol itself.

With the anniversary of the start of WW I now upon us, artifacts from the "Great War" have become in demand and quite valuable. This early U.S.-issue .45 automatic is now 96 years old, but is in great condition and still fully shootable. Its accoutrements, some of which are pictured, are also becoming scarce and valuable.

John

The Colt 1911 was first issued in 45acp. Later it was also chambered in 38 Super, 9mm, and others. The simple basic design has not changed in over 100 years, and is one of the most reliable and accurate sidearms made.

Nicely done, and it actually is a WWI vintage 1911 and not the later 1911A1.

Here's something interesting I found a few years ago to tie in with the WWI theme: Sgt York Battle Site Found

A nice collection and a good photo. The 1911 is one of my favorite pistols.

And with the 1911, John Browning made them even more equal.
