Looks like the fledging baby jays we had a few years ago.

Probably, one of my Jays from a few years ago, before they'd completely grown in their adult feathers, they've looked normal ever since.... I can't believe I didn't save a few pictures of those birds.

Here's what they looked like when they were moulting....

They'd stayed at our feeder all their first winter and last winter as well. Right now we are seeing 3 of the 6 still hanging around, dropping in once a day, the others have dispersed we suspect to different breeding territories.

This is what one of them looked like earlier this spring... nothing wrong at all, just a little ugly for a while.

Birds certainly don't look their best when they're molting. This was a Mourning Dove that was doing something a little similar.

We should rename this thread... the "Birds looking really bad" thread.

Thanks for looking, everyone. It's not any sort of molt. I've been told by a BUNCH of vets and ornithologists that it's some to do with some fungus or other. It's harmless other than what you see here. Oddly enough, I don't recall seeing it in any other birds than the cardinals and blue jays.

Oh no, not a bunch of vets.... sounds costly... I hate it when they bunch up like that.
