Canada Day - Edmonton Celebration
Lens: DA 35ltd / Sigma 17-70 Camera: K5 IIS / K5 Photo Location: Edmonton, Alberta,Canada
Posted By: daacon, 07-06-2014, 06:15 AM

Canada day was a long day for me. We left Vernon BC around 06:30 am. Various stops for photo opps , food and drink and we were back home around 05:30 pm. They were lighting up the bridge , so as tired as I was I knew I would regret not seeing that, so around 09:30 pm off I went downtown to photograph the evenings events.

There were thousands of people there. I got downtown around 10:00 pm and found a small pice of grass to sit on and waited an hour before it got dark enough (lost about a pint of blood to the 'skeeters as well)

They played our National Anthem and sequenced the light show. It was pretty impressive. Edmonton’s High Level Bridge was lit up by more than 50,000 LED lights for the first official time on Tuesday night, as the Light the Bridge project was unveiled.

And then the 15 - 20 minute fireworks show started. It was great night and I got home abound 12:30 pm. Damn long summer nights ! I used a combo of the K5IIS/ Sigma 17-70 on a tripod and the K5/ DA35ltd hand held

Good shooting daacon...it's like being there, without the smell of the smoke... or the crowd...

Great Canada Day pix...although being an oldie....I still catch myself thinking Dominion Day.

Always enjoy your pix of Edmonton....nice to see how the city I once lived in, is doing. Good memories.

Great shots. I'd like to try some of this next year. What settings worked for you here?

After an 11 hour trip I would have been in bed but glad that you stayed up or we would have missed these gorgeous shots. Thanks for posting them Dave.

I think I'm as old as you are Norm. I'm 65 years....young...as they used to say...way back.

Ah, but the first 10 years of my life I lived in the US of A... so Dominion day never made an impression on me. Living in Windsor was like living in a Suburb of Detroit. I didn't move to Canada proper until I was 17. That must be why it's such a poor memory for me.

Dominion Day. Is that anything like Armistice Day vs Veterans Day or Remembrance Day?
