That Tamron 90 will give you sharp images even if cropped. The guy I bought mine from had pictures of a few bear taken with one. Usually the recommended lens on APS-c is 400mm for bear.

Scratchpaddy and normhead, thanks so much for your comments. Yes it was a close shot and they do eat your plants but my wife and myself have learned to enjoy them and not be to concerned about our plants. We have azaleas also but in our case it's not their favorite plant. The 90 Tamron is a new lens for me and I'm just getting familiar with it but it is easy to use and does seem sharp.
