Yes, F111 still flying, but not for much longer. We did an amazing "bargain of the century" type deal with the USAF to take a whole bunch of parts and aircraft off their hands about 10 or 15 years ago when they de-commissioned their fleet, and it kept our birds in the air for an extra couple of decades. One of the best US bombers ever designed, long range, Mach 2+ supersonic, reasonable payload. Unfortunately they were far from stealthy (using the TFR is basically like shouting "Hey, here I am, over here!" to the enemy, for example).

I think we are getting rid of them either next year or the year after that. The RAAF still brings them out to sporting events and other public gatherings to do a low-level dump-and-burn, and it remains one of the most spectacular things you'll ever see. It's PR for the armed forces recruitment you coudn't put a monetary value on.

The FA-18 squadrons I did read were due for replacement some time not too long away... maybe 2012?

Hi Krisk10D. I do love the F-4 too. This particular one is the F-4E ( 20MM gatling gun). I did refuel hundreds of them in Germany and Florida (F-4D no gun in the nose)
Hope you weren't using that SR-51 goop the Aussies did. Turn's out the stuff can be fatal. F4 is my second fav military aircraft, the Spitfire stands numero uno. Built a few models of both of them

Zmatt nice pics. I went on Friday, I am not much into big crowds any more. The Smow Birds cut their show short due to some knid of problem. Looks like Saturday and Sunday there was less haze in the air and also more clear. Had some hard times taking pics at some angles on Friday. Miss must of demos from the war hoses.

Hi Krisk10D, what is the SR-51 goop? By the way I refuel some F-111F when I was in Germany in late 80's. From Lakenheat and Upper Heyford air bases in England. They do suck a lot of JP-4.

Nice photos! I was there with my K10D, sigma 24-135, and an older Tokina 70-210. Once I find a way I will post the shots up.

Nice series of shots there, Juana. some real keepers I reckon.
I notice you used the Tamron Di 70-300. Costant talk is about its bad PF.
Considering the bright light, thereis very little evidence of it. Perhaps in th first shot, but that is the brightest of them.
Well Done!

Ok, I finally got this to work. Here are my photos from the MacDill Airfest a few weekends ago. As I said above, taken with my K10D, Sigma 24-135, and an older Tokina 70-210 (with no hood).

http://link.myphotos.cc:81/MacDill%20Airfest%20May%203,%202008/album/index.html

Suprisingly, I see little CA on the shots taken with the Tokina 70-210 without a hood. I just wish I had something with a little more reach.

Hope you enjoy!

The airshow in Tampa this year was the first time they have flown all 3 together in public in quite some time. Awesome sight

I am sooo jealous, there is no cooler aircraft in the world than the venerable Starfighter. The SR-71 comes pretty close, but the 104 takes top honors... I must have had a half-dozen plastic models of them as a kid. Damn I would love to be one of their pilots.
