Ruby-throated Hummingbirds
Lens: DA*300 Camera: K-5IIs Photo Location: My yard in southwestern Ohio

The buzzin'…or…ummmm…hummin' this evening…lots of hummingbird activity

Adult male stretching
1/350s f/4.5 at 300.0mm iso2200


This is what he looked like just seconds before without the benefit of iridescence…
1/1500s f/5.6 at 300.0mm iso400


And this is an immature male with no red gorget feathers, yet. After migrating south for the winter and molting, he'll return in the spring with a full gorget.

Immature male standing on the leaves of cuphea 'David Verity' while feeding
1/500s f/5.6 at 300.0mm iso1600


Feeding on the blooms of silene regia - 'Royal Catchfly' - an Ohio native plant

Justicia brandegenea, aka 'Shrimp Plant"

And another immature male

Great captures of the birds at flowers. I like the blossoms better than nectar feeders but it is way more waiting for hummers to approach. Very well done series.

Wow...really nice work. Looks like the DA 300 is a solid performer at least in your hands anyway.
