What kind of tree this is but I could hear it calling for the macro lens.



Pentax FA 100mm f3.5 macro on an a K5ii.

Great! That would be what we call a Mimosa tree. Very tropical and exotic-looking. Nice textures and colors. Love the dark background.

It looks like a Mimosa tree, after which the drink is named. I am not a botanist but if I'm right, it has branches down low to the ground and is one of the first trees a little kid can climb. I grew up with them in the state of Mississippi, in the southeast U.S.

According to the Wikipedia article they are native to eastern Asia and were brought to the U.S. in the 1780s, but unfortunately they grow where they want and tend to takeover. So, and I say this without judgment, some people think they are a beautiful tree and other people think they are a weed.

Where did you take the picture? They do have beautiful flowers, don't they?

Thanks for the kind words and the ID on this tree. I wouldn't have expected a 'tropical' tree in Reno, NV.

That's because it's not native to the US. They're pretty aggressive invasives, too, so be careful. They do look very cool when in bloom, though.
