Breezin'
Posted By: rfortson, 01-28-2007, 01:06 AM

George Benson came "breezin'" into Galveston last night (tonight?) and they allowed cameras into the show. I managed to get a few good shots with my Pentax SMC-A 135mm f/2.8. Here's a quick one before bed.

Nice capture. You seem to be having better luck with that lens then I had with mine.

That is a nice concert shot. It really brings out that he is into the music.

Thanks Alan. As my daddy always said, even a blind hog can root up an acorn once in a while.

I will say that I was surprised that almost all the shots were overexposed, even though I was using spot metering. Since they were shot in raw, I was able to recover the highlights in almost all the shots. However, I wasn't expecting that kind of problem.

Thanks Clarence. He put on a great show, and seemed to really enjoy it. I guess that's the secret to their success. They have talent and truly enjoy performing.

Russ,
What camera did you use, and is it equiped with a Katz Eye focus screen? Katz Eye screens render spot metering pretty much useless.

I used the K100D with the stock focus screen. I recently added the Pentax magnifying eyepiece, which really helps me focus. (I know it doesn't affect exposure, BTW.) I need to do some more controlled tests to see if the exposure is consistently off. I haven't noticed it happening in good light.

Great shot you got there! How far were you from the stage?

This would make a great promo shot! I'm in awe at the clarity and colour rendition of this lens.

Hi Alvin,

I was probably 30-40 feet from the stage when I took this shot. The security was quite lax and people were walking up and taking pictures all through the show. I took the majority of the shots during the last two songs when everybody was standing near the stage. It was a blast!
