Pelicans
Lens: Pentax DA 55-300 mm Camera: Pentax K-5 Photo Location: Malibu
Posted By: GeoJerry, 07-14-2014, 10:11 PM

I stopped by the side of the road to try out the 55-300 mm on the moon. As I was getting ready and starting to zoom in, these pelicans flew right towards me, right into my viewfinder (no they're not masked in!). I had to zoom out and autofocus really quickly and salvaged the shot.

Just superb sky colouration, well captured.

I'm quite partial to Pelicans myself and when you see them in silhouette like this, there's no denying their prehistoric ancestry.

Yep, pterodactyls with feathers. Or maybe pterodactyl DID have feathers and were large paleo-pelicans!?

They never seem to be just friendly fish eaters in the all the prehistoric monster movies...

Thanks LeRolls, glad you liked it! I really got lucky with this one. Another reason why I always carry my camera with me, except for routine errands.

And a stunning backdrop.
