A few more Hummingbirds...
Lens: DA*300 Camera: K-5IIs Photo Location: My yard in southwestern Ohio
Posted By: Bud, 07-20-2014, 06:25 PM

Some recent Ruby-throated Hummingbird images from my yard. All shots are identified with the name of the plant / bloom.

Kniphofia 'Echo Rojo'

Cuphea 'David Verity'

Savia 'Amistad'

Asclepias curassavica 'Tropical Milkweed'
This shot is in my front yard. The blown out background is from the sun reflecting off of the street… I like the effect

Justicia brandageana 'Shrimp Plant'

And a couple "perched" shots. Yes, they do take a break every now and then...

Both of the following hummingbird images are of a young male perched in one of my aesculus pavia 'Dwarf Red Buckeye' trees. They are the first nectar perennials that bloom in my yard in the spring, and are pollinated almost exclusively by… hummingbirds

This is what the blooms look like in April and May

His parents may have played a major role in th development of the buckeye he's resting on

And, finally… a parting shot…

Thanks for looking!

Really nice work with these photos. Very sharp. We have many hummingbirds at our feeder and in the yard, and I have not come close to this quailty.

OK, those are just amazing and have reinforced my desire to keep saving for the DA*300. My goal is to have that lens when I take my trip to Yellowstone next year.

Wow, those are really superb shots! I really like the one with the blown out background - it's exceptional. The second to last is incredibly sharp. What do you use for PP?
