Very Zen, I'm not sure your gallowglass ancestors would approve.

At any rate, this lens really does have a knack for providing theatrical backdrops, almost like a stage set. A question, though: what kind of flash arrangement are you using?

Nothing clever, just a little bit of fill to allow for the aperture from the onboard camera pop up.

Thanks, I'll definitely have to remember that, especially when the wind is blowing--I remember on-board flashes as being pretty gruesome "back in the day," but the "fill" here doesn't overpower the delicacy of the subject.

The scene was metering 1/400 @ F8.0, so it was only three more stops on the aperture to get up to F22 for max dof, with a sync speed of 1/180 its more like two and bit ish stops.

At a few inches to subject distance, not much flash power required at all, hence not overwhelmed.

Well, there's not much about the 21st Century I'm partial to, but a civilized flash might be one of the exceptions. Thanks for breaking down your process--a really good result, especially since the flower petals are trending pearlescent anyway.

Who would have thought an A series macro lens could such amazing work! No need for limiteds or * lenses, This series does awesome!! Time to start collecting smc-A's! Also I would never have thought of using fill flash on it. Great idea!
