A Study of Upheaval
Lens: 43mm ltd Camera: K5 Photo Location: Colorado Springs, CO
Posted By: Bob Harris, 07-25-2014, 07:43 PM

one of our favorite places to visit, Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs. The contrast in colors is amazing to see in person, visit if you are in the area if you get a chance and the park is free to tour.

And if I may add, be there at sunrise, it brings out the colours even more.

You know, the FA43 doesn't seem to get as much love as its shorter sibling for landscapes (or even the DA 40 Limited) but I've been closely monitoring the sets you've been posting from out West...not bad for a "portrait lens"! (Remembering of course, as Kerrowdown mentions in another thread, that "it's not the arrow, it's the Indian.")

Lots to do in the Colorado Springs area, just go up Hwy. 24 into the Rocky Mountains, wonderful drive with lots of old West towns.

I googled the term "sunrise" and that seems to be in the early morning. I'll have to try one of them someday.

Or, if it suits your lifestyle better, sunsets aren't bad at all either

I shot the photo with the K5 using the 43mm and meant to switch it to the K3 for comparison but of course I forgot to do so. The 43mm is my favorite lens and I have used it in all situations and it always preforms. I ran the photos through Neat Imaging and it seems the exif data erased for some reason. Here is another photo at the park using the 43mm with an ND 8 filter @ f/2.0, I was playing with settings, if I remember correctly.

Thanks for elaborating...I seem to remember someone on the board (Nesster, I believe) extoling the 43's rendering of stone surfaces--I'm a believer.
(BTW, the ND route was certainly an interesting rabbit to pull out of your hat...the 3-D effect is so pronounced I would have ordinarily thought you were using a T/S lens to create that "diorama" look.)

I did too many sunrises when I worked so now that I'm retired, the sunset mode works very well for me.

I like to play around with different lens and filter combinations and it seems with the 43 I get more of an effect, especially on wide open landscapes for some reason.

It really is a wonderful area to visit and photograph CC. I was going to say you couldn't take a bad photo here but when I uploaded the more than 200 photos, some were a mess due to my experimenting with settings and combinations of lenses. Thankfully digital is very cheap.
