Drift racing with K10D and Bigma. Lots of samples...
Posted By: blwnhr, 05-07-2008, 08:27 PM

Last weekend was my first event shooting for CircleWork. I was kinda nervous, being accepted into this group, had to push the limits and come up with some good results.

Talking to the drivers, they are wrapped in the photos, so I guess that's what matters! Comments from the esteemed members here will be greatly appreciated also.

Excuse the number of samples, I had so many favourites.

Practice and Qualifying runs - CircleWork.

Tandems and Misc shots - Circlework.

Some samples for you all here:

God these Pentax cameras really suck at fast action! Seriously, a lot of nice shots, but in my mind the best are the ones where you nailed sharp subjects with backgrounds that really show some motion.

I'm taken with the 3rd shot posted. Each car pointing in a different direction, front wheels turned out, lots of smoke from the back... great stuff

Jodo... Yeh, I love it when Nikanonites say Pentax is no good for sports. I can point them at blwnhr's work now

Believe me, you have to work DAMN hard to get Pentax to do it! You have to pick your position and shutter speeds very carefully indeed!

Yeah, imports are the flavour. There are some Australian cars, but mostly in the national series. Supra's are heavy and don't drift well. A friend has an early model Supra that he drifts, but it's not seen the track for a while.

The red car is an R31 Skyline, they were an Australian model. Oh, there are 2 sprinters there too, check it out in the gallery.

GOOD WORK!!!

I also have some DRIFTING coverage Dori Dori! - a set on Flickr

at the time the longest i was able to get was a quantaray 70-300 and it performed quite well...

i dont have super close tight shots like yours but i also used
P F70-200, Sigma 17-70, 12-24, and a 50 1.4

Adam, all I can say is WOW.....once again you stepped the bar up, some amazing shots, keep up the great work. Everytime I see more of your pictures it makes me want to fly down there and see some of those tracks, and of course learn from the master

Hahaha, thanks Gaelen!

I was pretty happy with myself getting shots like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v197/blownhr/Drift/080503-TasDriftRnd1PQ-148.jpg

EXIF shows 1/180, and 400+mm, hahah, handheld panning!

Pretty cool racing shots, I've never seen drift racing all we have around me is a dragstrip and a nascar track. I'll bet the tires don't last long

Sweet shots Gaelen! I'd pick a favorite but honestly there's so many good ones that you posted. Seeing these pics make me want to fire up the playstation for some Gran Turismo drifting action...

Nice work Adam.
I actually liked the shot of the Cressida with the nose right on the apex.

And als the R31 sedan with the rear facing ... (shame about the Mazda parked on the infield in the background of the shot though)
