Sunset Landing
Lens: DA*300 f4 Camera: K5iis Photo Location: Canberra, Australia ISO: 800

A fast moving plane, a hand held DA*300mm and almost no light is a challenging combination! This is a Virgin ATR, landing at Canberra airport.

I'm posting the second picture which was taken earlier than this one, because I was surprised to see the green lens flare from the DA*300. However, the landing lights were very overexposed! I realise that it's not a great photo - I should have used a faster shutter speed. Tracking a plane with a heavy lens at only 1/30s is a bit much! A Qantas 717 landing at Canberra airport.

PS I need to find a better noise reduction program. The results from DxO and PSP X6 were so awful I just stayed with the ISO 800 noise.

gee, you set yourself a challenge don't you!, I like the look of the first one against the sunset, and at 1/30 of a sec I think you've done well to get anything resembling an aircraft, I'm sure I would have ended up with a shot for the "abstract pop art folder"

Thanks for the compliment! As the days get longer, I'll be able to try again after work, with a bit more light!

PS I tried the noise reduction in Lightroom, which looked great until I exported it, and the resulting jpeg was awful. Most software seems to have problems with sunsets - not enough variation in the available colours I guess.

I use "Neat Image" when I need to. There is a Free version, although the free version has some limitations I find it adequate for my needs. It gives you good control over noise & sharpening with quite a few presets and sliders to tweek them. Haven't tried sunsets though!
cheers

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll give it a try.
