Identify these birds?
Lens: DA 18-135 Camera: K-5IIs Photo Location: Northern Nevada

Noticed these birds while biking along the river trail. Sorry for the low quality - this is a 100% crop. Anyone know what these are? My bird guide doesn't have a section for "looks like they belong in a cartoon."

Thanks jpzk, PJ1 and TedW for the replies. I had thought they looked closest to Cormorants, but I thought they were native to coastal regions only. Going back and double-checking, I see now the double-crested Cormorant has broad summer range and virtually coast-to-coast migration area in North America. Thanks again!

Immature bird on the left; adult on the right.

Double-crested Cormorant is a freshwater bird. Great Cormorant prefers salt water.
