Garden walk near Acland street in Melbourne.
Posted By: Voe, 05-09-2008, 06:31 AM

Hi all,

Here are some photos made with my newly acquired SMC Pentax-A 50mm f/1.7. I decided to sell my M lens and get the A. I like it better but I did not expect that the lens barrel is made of plastic. Anyway I think this lens is a keeper.

These photos are from my outing with James last Sunday.

Hi Voe.

I see that you have been concentrating on the wire and can lids where I failed miserably in capturing any decent images.

Great work. A 50mm f1.7 is a great lens. Pity that I did not take my 50mm f1.2 out at the time

Oh I'm loving these pictures!

The same 50mm is on my way and will be here on Monday. This just got my emotional levels up.

Love these photos! The color is wonderful in all of them.

I particularly like 4 and 10 just for subject matter. 7 would be my favorite artsy-wise, the gradient effect on the can lid is impressive.

is it all plastic? the A50 1.2 feels like most of it is made of metal, perhaps they put more into it.

Pics are great, the background colours make for some great bokeh. My favourites are 4, 10 and 15.

My lens came in today. Have been playing with it all day. Nothing has turned out as well as yours though.
Nice shots, Susan

Well not all but the aperture ring and the focus ring are made of plastic which looks like metal until you touch it. Everything else is made of metal. I am also not impressed by the way aperture ring clicks. It does not sound very well designed, but thankfully I don't need to change it often as I can do this from the camera itself. I sold my FA 50mm f/1.4 about 3-4 months ago as I did not like the look and the fact that I can get the same or better quality (wide open) from my M 50mm f/1.7.
I don't know about you but I prefer the manual focus and the nice look of the M or A the lenses than the auto focus and the ugly plastic look of the FA 50's. I also sold my FA 35mm f/2 because I did not like the look and the rendering and bought the DA 40mm Limited new at much cheaper price than what I sold the FA 35mm. I noticed that for me the rendering of the DA Limited is much better than the FA 35mm and it also seems that the DA 40mm Limited has greater DoF than the FA 35 when both lenses are at the same aperture which is great for my way of street photography.

Thanks all for the nice comments. I really appreciate it.

Cheers,

Voe.
