Spring has finally Sprung
Lens: 43mm Camera: K-3
Posted By: Bob Harris, 08-20-2014, 10:06 PM

At an elevation of more than 10,000' it takes awhile for the wildflowers to bloom
Taken 8-18 in the San Juan Mountains, Colorado. It is hard to tell from the photo how beautiful this is to view.

What a carpet of colours, I've never seen such a mix as this before.

Lovely and well captured. I read several times that California was nick-named "Golden" by emigrants crossing the Sierra in late spring and seeing before them an expanse of golden wildflowers (probably California poppies) covering the west slope down into the Central Valley. Story may be apocryphal, but I can testify to the golden carpet of blossoms. And in the Rockies, your photo of alpine blooms has reminded me of days past when I hiked at altitude and would lie on my belly staring at the multicolored blossoms. Thanks for sharing.

quite a beautiful view and only on the sun exposed valleys, it's almost as if someone had planted a flower garden at 10,000 foot.

I always thought the "golden" was due to the gold mined in CA, but I can see your point. Near Palmdale CA, if the rain is just right, California poppies explode in the valleys there. Glad to bring back some memories of your Rocky Mountain adventures, I can see why John Denver wrote so often of this beautiful state.

thank you Steve for the kind words. Colorado got a lot of rain this year in fact I read where all drought restrictions were lifted for the first time in years. Didn't make it to Montana this year, but hope you got your share and with no fires this year.
