San Francisco Nights
Camera: Pentax K-5 Photo Location: Marin County
Posted By: GeoJerry, 08-22-2014, 06:04 PM

Some shots from a recent trip up to San Francisco (or, "The City" as they like to call it*). We used to live up here so this was a stroll down memory lane for us.

These shots are from the Marin side, looking in a southerly direction.

* If you want to get hooted out of a restaurant, call it Frisco.

Your second shot of the GG Bridge from an unusual angle is great. I also used to live there and the locals are indeed hostile if you say "Frisco." Rhymes with Crisco, don'cha know and ticks them off. As it did me, when I was a resident.

Your other shots are also very good. I just like the second one the best.

Thanks eaglem.... focusing at night is pretty tricky and I was struggling with it using the 55-300 mm (#3). I tried autofocus, spot autofocus, manual to infinity (which is not necessarily correct, I found, even 5 miles distant), and then gradually pulling back from the infinity setting. I thought in fact that #3 was much softer than I'd like - I couldn't get sharp focus, whether it's my technique or the limitation of the lens, I don't know.

#1 and #2 were taken with the 17-70 mm and do seem sharp to me. I'm a little suspicious of the 55-300 mm, although I have gotten sharp results before.

Thanks very much waterfall! There used to be a restaurant on Clement called "Don't Call it Frisco" which we ate at a few times.
#2 is taken from Fort Baker outside Sausalito. I don't think the public could access this spot when we lived here in the mid 1980's.
