I lurked on this website doing research before I purchased my Pentax K-30 late last year. I was new to this system, but after almost a year of using it I get this smile and warm feeling every time I pull my white K-30 out of my bag. I started a project (like many do) to push my self creatively and to take more photos...and Pentax has done that. The camera always seems to get attention...maybe it's the blinding white body...or maybe its the strange Pentax logo.
I haven't had the joys of expanding my lenses arsenal. Just armed with the Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4, Pentax 18-55mm WR, and Pentax 50-200mm WR, I've been very pleased with my results, but I know a fast prime would help immensely to push me creatively in a subject I don't dabble much in - portraits.
Though I'm sure I'll be going up against people who are extremely talented, my photo submission was from October 2013 in Cashiers, NC. While taking my family to the Apple Festival, I found this bee hanging out on a dahlia flower. I had my Pentax 50-200mm and the focusing was hunting alot, I switched to manual focus, lowered my aperture as low as I could and snapped this gem. I'm a little biased but I think of all the shots I've taken in the last year, this ranks as one of my best and favorites. Is it good enough to win...probably not, but I enjoy sharing my work with other photographers.
Plus my birthday is Sept 22nd...just sayin'...could be a nice present.
Good luck everyone.
