Sports Cars on a Cloudy Day
Lens: FA 31/1.8 and DA 55-300 Camera: K-3 Photo Location: MSR Houston
Posted By: Sailor, 08-27-2014, 10:08 AM

Earlier this month, I attended an amateur race at nearby MSR Speedway in Angleton, TX. It was - mercifully - cloudy, breezy and remarkably comfortable for an August day in SE Texas. In addition, the color saturation produced by cloudiness affords pics of cars that have a different "look" than those taken either indoors or under sunny skies - allowing a entertaining photo experiment.

Nice rides Jer.

I love that McClaren 12C. It looks like a million bucks and I understand it costs about a million bucks too.

Very nice. Hard to pick a favorite. Maybe one for every day of the week?

Nice series of cars Jer. I bet they sounded real good too. Love that classic 911 (even though they had a tendency to go off a curvy road backwards).

Hey, Steve - thanks much. I've never driven an early 911, but from what I've read, they could really be a handful for the unsuspecting. In '70 or '71, I drove a slightly-used 912, which felt balanced and agile (especially compared with my '69 Mach I), but I think it was about 200 lbs lighter than the 911 and - with the small, lighter 4 cylinder positioned a bit further forward than the 6 in the 911, had a better weight distribution.

Thanks much, brother Bob. We did have a fun day and . . . . . . . I know just what you mean: there are two or three cars I'd love to own (including a 'Vette) that I've somehow missed along the way.

Oh Yeah - it seems as if half the kids in the county are driving these things, and at MSR that day they were like flies at a picnic: everywhere.

Thanks very much, Norbert. I've owned a lot of makes - and some really great cars - over my many years on the earth, but I have to say my Porsches have been in a class of their own. However, I love lots of brands - I've hinted to my wife that a C-7 Corvette coupe would be great parked next to the Boxster S in our garage - but I'm not holding my breath.
