Grand Canyon
Lens: 43mm Camera: K5 Photo Location: Arizona
Posted By: Bob Harris, 08-28-2014, 08:50 AM

We spent the day at the Grand Canyon, we had rain storms going up and back to the canyon from Williams AZ but it cleared for about 5 hours for us to tour the area. Here is the last photo I took in late afternoon and it is the first photo I've uploaded, so lots of work deleting and choosing which ones to keep. This is the most difficult place to photograph that I've ever visited and it is about our 15th time at the park, the colors change with the light and it is so immense it is hard to get angles correct

There's a strong colour cast to the farther side slopes, and it's surprising that so much was lost in the shadows, my old K20D used to handle this pretty well

Wouldn't the shadows slider not pull out some more detail in PP?

It's in the shadows and I lightened it up already, I don't like to do much PP, originally it was almost completely dark. Thanks.

I like the 3-D look, brother Bob. Nice job in capturing an overwhelming subject.

thanks buddy, what attracted me to take the photo was there is a lot of subject matter, different colors and tones and of course the formations in the background. A beautiful place to visit, my memories are always better than my photos.

Turned out pretty nice Bob. Have you ever been to the North Rim? We're thinking about going there in October.

Great capture, Bob. Very nice composition. Photographing immense vistas like that pose a challenge like no other! I've visited the Snake River Canyon many times and have yet to come home with a shot that satisfies my critical eye!

yes a couple of times Jerry, what I like about the North Rim is it isn't as busy with tourists, beautiful views and a lot cooler for sure. It is beautiful up that way.

thanks for viewing and glad to know you understand how difficult photographing these canyons are. I try to look for different angles and of course it is all about the light. I'm just glad we have memories, they are always better than photos taken here it seems.
