The night is not grey
Lens: smc PENTAX-DA 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 ED AL[IF] DC WR Camera: K-30 Photo Location: Hannover Aperture: F8

My favorite pics from a nighttime walk with a good friend through Hannover. My cheap tripod worked quite well. I was astonished by the picture quality the 18-135 delivered on the K-30 at f/8.

The Statue 'Mann mit Pferd' (Man with Horse)was captured within a 15s exposure at ISO 200. I added a little lightpainting to it(only the red curve in front). It came out really sharp. Had to remove a spider web under the horses ear in post.

Marktkirche exposed 3s at ISO800. The sRGB compression changed the colors of the sky compared to the original, but I like both versions.
These shots got printed at 30x45 cm and I am very happy with the results.

Two nice images, especially the 2nd one. The light painting in the first one does NOT add anything to the image.

Thanks for the honest critics. At the time I took the first shot I did not expect that the surrounding would work so nice with the subject after a bit of PP. That's why I added the basic lightpainting back then.
So, next time I will think twice about it, or at least make a better lightpaint

This is the version without lightpainting. Sadly the wind moving the wigs spoiled it. Update: Replaced with combined image.

I've never really tried shooting at night. I should give it a try soon.

The first image is much improved by removing that red scribble.

The dark blue sky in photo #2 is very attractive.

Well done.

I can feel a quick layer merge in PP coming on.

As written on flickr it was during the blue hour, the best time for night shots IMO. Especially when combined with the city lights. When we started I was afraid the clouds would kill the mood. They actually gave the sky more shape.
The shot of the statue was after the blue hour and I had to pull the blue sky out a bit.
As long as you bring your tripod and some time you wont be disappointed.

Not today, but I will definitely give it a try soon.

Took some time but finally found a bit of time to play with Gimp. Still not accustomed its workflow...
Now there is way less movement in the tree:

Also I used Lightroom to remove most of the trash in front of the church:

I replaced the old versions on flickr and updated my old posts.
