Enjoyed a quick 6 mile hike at nearby Rocky Fork Wilderness recently. Main purpose of this hike was to get a few snapshots of Blockstand Creek. The creek is usually very full and rough, but this dry late summer promised a more peaceful stream.
On the way, we noticed that the Purple-Flowered Raspberry was still blooming. Their thin reddish fruits are quite tasty (for humans and for black bears).
Also, despite the dry weather, Rocky Fork stays rather damp, and so is a great habitat for various mushrooms.
Shrinking puddles along the trail were hopping with young Green Frogs.
And the creek, as we hoped, was much "tamer" and more photogenic than usual.
We barely even got our feet wet! Hope you enjoyed this rather dry hike, and that you'll share your comments & suggestions.
