Nice when I don't have to go further than the balcony for a photo!

Thanks Rob, My reds tend to oversaturate. So thats why I was asking.
No worries. I just checked the EXIF and the camera was set to spot exposure and 0EV offset. Out of habit from the days of film, I often underexpose with a -1/3EV offset. In this case, it looks like the exact centre of the image is the pink blossom the Rosella was eating, so it probably resulted in the bird being a bit under-exposed ie I got lucky. I had set the spot mode when photographing the Silvereyes, which had bright sky in the background. Even centre-weighted wouldn't have worked as well.

My worst device for over-saturated reds is my Nikon film scanner, I believe because it uses an LED light source.

Thanks Rob. This will give me something to work on.
I haven't even tried the spot meter yet. I'll
have to read up on it. And underexposed by -1/3
sounds like a good idea.

It's worth experimenting and find what works for you! My experience with the spot meter mode has been hit and miss. Some things are hard to meter - dark birds for example. Getting the exposure right when photographing Black Swans is hard because the camera wants to compensate too much for the dark plumage.

Thanks, I have been doing some of that. I have been learning by trial and error.
I'll keep at it.

Thanks! In retrospect it's probably the best shot of that day.
