Nice when I don't have to go further than the balcony for a photo!

Hi Bob! It's an Eastern Rosella. The most common Rosellas where I live are Crimson Rosellas, while the Eastern Rosellas are more shy and travel in pairs. Luckily, this one was hungry enough to put up with me taking a few photos with the DA*300. I kind of wish I had that 1.4TC though. Maybe later this month?

that TC will be a great addition for sure, you have so many beautiful birds there, here in the desert we have ravens, not quite the same.

You also have Roadrunners, which are cool!

That's the trouble with birds - they just won't stay still!

And a Silvereye.

And this is what the flowers look like with the DA35 macro and a ring flash.

Thanks! They don't call 'em Crimson for nothing! I might have got a better one, but a couple of the neighbours' boys hung around asking questions and tried to help by waving handfuls of blossoms at the birds. Anyway, I like the way the bird is hiding amongst the flowers.

Rob, really nice photos. You captured the red in that bird really well.
Did you do anything special to do that?

Thanks Tim! No, most of the work was done by the camera. I just tweaked the curves a little when I made the image to post online. I find that red tends to over-saturate much more quickly than other colours with digital cameras. The DA*300 also renders beautifully. The DA 55-300 is amazing for the price, but the DA*300 is in a different league.
Oh also, it was an overcast day and this was open shade, which would have helped minimise contrast and assisted the colour rendition.
