How about a warning, this is scary-looking. How big is this spider? Good framing and I like the dark background, especially as it makes the silk strands stand out so well. At the same time, the contrast feels too strong, maybe this was done in PP? The result is that the lighting looks unnatural, with that one bright area on the rear part possibly blown out. I find natural outdoor macro work very tricky, there is almost always some slight wind movement, which becomes very noticeable at close focusing distances with limited depth of field, so if this was done outdoors, good stuff.

I knew exactly what this was gonna be.

Witnessing stuff like this is precisely the reason why I gave up on insect-macro. Well, butterflies, bees, and ladybugs are all right I guess, but with spiders things turn downright nasty.

This was short at night with the pop up flash. That's why the lighting is a bit harsh.

It's big and ugly for sure. But it a way it's neat IMO.

I guess you're right, the diagonal angle and one of the legs in the air suggest the spider is on the way to it's prey.

I suggest bringing down the highlights (some more) in the RAW converter (the RAW converter since CS6 does a way better job at that) to remove some of it's harshness. Also I would suggest bringing down some of the red saturation to compensate for the flash's harshness.

Did you shoot this picture with the 100mm F4 lens?

The red saturation is my fault. I liked the extra red, but perhaps it's "overbaked". I'll see if I can play with the highlights more. I know I brought them down some but I can't remember if there was more room.

Yes, this was shot with the 100 f4 macro.
