The Miss Sailing club pageant
Posted By: dudlew, 05-12-2008, 05:35 PM

Hello,

During Whitsuntides here in Canouan, There is an annual regatta. I took the photos for the queen show they had this year, and was just posting a few shots of the contestants up for a little critique. As usual, my standard gear are the K100D with Sigma 17-70, all shot RAW, processed in capture One 4 and PhotoShop Elements 6.

Don't be afraid to critique and suggest.

The photos are in order of positioning from first to sixth:

Hope you enjoyed and as usual comments and critiques are very welcome.

That Miss Carriacou shot is really really good.
It's hard to get "good" shots when that background is very distracting.
I'd say you've done very well

Agreed, that Miss Carriacou photo is a real standout. I'm sure it was a good fun event to attend, Duane!

Thanks Arpe, I understand what you mean. The funny thing is that most people who I show the picture to don't like it because the face is hidden. I like this shot alot though, as I like the pose and the concept of it. And to think it was kind off a lucky shot!! This and Miss Grenada are two of my favourites.

Thanks G M,

It was a nice event, but these things always have problems; late start, long delays, and on top a rowdy and unappreciative crowd.

I had printed some 8 x 10 of a few of these just to show around and the comments were generally just critiques of the women; too much teeth, not shaven properly, she is standing like a robot and so on and so forth. I couldn't believe the uber critical nature of some people who for sure would not have been better, but I guess it is human nature.

I had fun though. On a side note, after all the comments on the blotchy skin and so forth, I tried a copy of Imagenomic's Portraiture plugin, and I want it!! Its out of my price range right now, but sooner or later I can see myself buying it.

Thanks for the comments both.

Thanks for posting. I think the best shot from an artistic point of view is Miss Carriacou.
I suspect, due to the subject matter, that this thread will get a lot of views and comments.

Agreed about the Miss Carriacou shot.

I think I need a catchier title though, maybe scantily clad babes?

Seems like you want the job?

Thats one of the reasons I would like to get the portraiture plugin. It will smooth her skin out a bit, without a big loss in detail. From the quick demo I did of it, it seems definitely worth the money if you make a good living off of portraits and people photography.

Save that it doesn't show the contestant's face, Miss Carriacou is absolutely fabtastic.
