I Couldn't Resist
Posted By: Mike Cash, 05-13-2008, 05:21 AM

I couldn't resist having a little fun with the post-processing on this photo. See if you can figure out why this image looks the way it does. There's a relatively simple explanation and I suspect that almost everyone will figure it out very easily.

is it a reflection in water and you turned it upside down to have the reflected part on top? Just a wild stab.

I thought so as well at first glance but the bottom is too sharp for a reflection. So I'd say you selectively used a blur to the upper part of the image.

Looks like a heat shimmer to me. Did something with a high exhaust pipe just drive past?

The grass growing upside down in the bottom of the frame gives it away. It does make you look, and it is an interesting photo.

I had to take a closer look at this again. Fritz caught an important detail if I'm guessing right. This is 2 images layered. The Light green grass in the top right and bottom left are from one image and the rest is another. Then some blur was added. The lower traffic light has some window reflection so I'd say it was shot from inside the truck as well.

Actually, I think it's a straight reflection, turned upside down. Water absolutely still at the "bottom" and a slight ripple up near the "top". Note that the weeds in the upper right corner are also upside down, and that the ripple extends behind those weeds.

NaCl(thats my story and I'm sticking to it)H2O

I'm still with that camp as well. But I'll add that there was a flipflopping as well to make the writing be frontwards and not "reflected."

He did say SIMPLE explanation. That's fairly simple. Layering images is probably simple to a lot of people. To me that's theoretical physics.

Mel and our salty friend from the Bronx got it.

It's just a water reflection turned upside down and then horizontally flipped so the writing goes the right way. I thought about cropping the tell-tale vegetation out, but decided against it. Also notice that the extreme bottom edge provides a clue.

I think the usual prize is that you get to host the next one.
