the "Two Mittens"
Lens: 43mm Camera: K3 Photo Location: Monument Valley

these massive formations are visible from most spots in the park but there are only a few spots to get them isolated as in this photo. I would estimate they are 800 feet in height and about a half mile distance from each other.

Another wonderful image Bob, if one looks hard enough there are a number of different images in that rock face.

interesting that you say that Heinrich, the Navajo say that spirits live in the formations to protect the land.

The clouds just make them stand out even more in the image. Excellent contrast.

I find it amazing that the pattern of erosion in each formation is almost identical (particularly when they're 0.5 mile apart). Speaking of images it looks to me that they're giving each other the 'finger'.

I love taking photos when storm clouds are passing, as you say it adds to the image. thanks for the kind review.

all of the soft material has been eroded so only the harder strata remains. So cool to see in person. maybe they are just feeling what the temp is?
