Late season Ruby-throated Hummingbirds
Lens: DA*300 Camera: K-5IIs Photo Location: My yard in SW Ohio
Posted By: Bud, 10-02-2014, 09:11 PM

This is usually the time of year when the Ruby-throated Hummingbird southern migration is wrapping up, and there's just a few stragglers hanging around. This season, however, perhaps due to the harsh winter, the northern migration started a couple weeks later than usual and the return leg of the annual journey seems to be on the same schedule. Coinciding with the unusual weather this year are the late blooms on many of the annual plants in my yard. The late crop of hummingbirds and colorful blooms has provided some nice photo opportunities

All images are from the past 2 days and hand-held with my K-5IIs and DA*300 using available light.

Thanks for looking!

These blooms are Tecoma 'Bells of Fire'

Salvia elegans "Golden Delicious'
1/500s f/5.6 at 300.0mm iso100

Salvia chiapensis

And one young hummingbird… that just likes to pose

Great job on these "flighty" little characters! Excellent detail as well. My favorites are the 2nd floral photo and the first perched photo.
