It's official, the bug season is open.....
Posted By: Heinrich Lohmann, 05-14-2008, 06:09 PM

....even in Alberta.

Here are some images of a tiny wasp like critter that I can not identify. there are many and they fly fast.

To put the size of this bug into perspective: In the background is a rasphberry cane and the bug is on a piece of regular garden twine.

Let me know what you think, comments are always welcome.

I'm still waiting for a photo of a good old canadian mosquito, you know the one I mean, it says "lockheed" on the side of it and it only takes a few of them can carry off your grandchildren.

Great shots.

PS. I know I can trust you to come up with virtually any shot I mention, first the big goose, now this. I'll need to think a little harder the next time I throw a challenge your way

I hate to say it, but that mosquito would be a big ole' red smear on my arm long before I swung the camera over to take a picture...

I like the 3rd shot in your series, Heinrich. I really like the pattern the "veins" in the bug's wings make when they're overlapped. I'm sure there's a technical term for the veins, but I don't know it.

Superb shots Heinrich! Wow!

I'm afraid black flies started yesterday at my country house... that means 95% DEET and headnets for the next month or so...

Hi Dan, LOL, yes you and me both but on that particular day I was in macro mode when I felt the bite so I took his picture and he was a red smear right after that.

That third shot is my favourite as well and I don't know the term for those veins neither.

Take care,

Thank you Pat. Quebec and Ontario get the blackflies in the spring ( man can I remember some walleye season opening trips in northern Ontario) and here out west we get them in the fall.

Take care,

Heinrich, I would love to come study your bugging technique... that third shot is perfection.

The mosquito is really good too, no matter what camera you used....

Thank you Gus for the kind words it is appreciated. No secret technique Gus, keep in mind that I show you only the keepers.

Take care,

I asked him to turn around and smile, but I guess his eye's cover his ears.
Sorry for posting in your post, that mosquito looks like it's 24k gold.
