I'm embarrassed to say I live about 30 minutes from here but never visited. Everyone I know who has gone has been very impressed but all said it was blowing a gale!

There is a very interesting video on how it works on the page - over on the right side, that you can expand to full screen.Perhaps just because I am an engineer...

So, why is the canal there, and where does it go from to? It looks kind of like a ferris wheel, only not as much fun. Maybe I'm missing something?

It connects canals as a 'backbone' for Scotland, East to West, follow the link there's a good bit of detail there and a wee video.
