I love the sound of these big radial engines.

Same here.
Just yesterday I heard a plane flying over the house. I rushed outside to see it because the slow, thumping engine told me it would be an old timer.
(It was a single engine biplane.)

Nice shot.

Radial engines forever! I'm glad I'm not the only one who rushes outside when they hear that sound.

We have a Warbirds Museum in my hometown and the have on display, one of the radial engines from the Convair B-36. IIRC, it's got 18 cylinders. I can remember as a kid, we lived near Castle AFB, near Merced, California. They had a squadron of them and the sound of those monsters flying overhead was a sound like no other! Six pushin' and four burnin' makes for a very unusual, very distinctive sound. Keeping all those engines up and running must have been an absolute nightmare! Oh, but I'd love to hear one of them again. I doubt if there's a single one still flying today, though.

You can always watch Strategic Air Command with Jimmy Stewart for some nostalgia. I was on my bike headed to school when one of them flew overhead at a low altitude. I watched it instead of where I was going and rode into the back of a parked car.
