Ba, Ba, Ba, Ba . . . . . Bad to the Bone

Here are three shots of a 997-generation Porsche 911 GT2 - these things can hit around 205 mph with a turbo-charged mill and a six-speed manual. They are a rare sight, indeed - so I was glad for the opportunity to photograph one at a recent concours in Houston.

Nice shots of the beast. I would hope that there aren't many potholes with those wheels though.

That maybe so... but she doesn't have the sexy curves of the old school 911 turbos.

Yep.... that's the one! I have a friend who has one and it's blindingly fast! Oh how I'd like to take it for a drive, but I feel fortunate that he even took me for a ride in it! It's scary-fast!

Thanks very much, Steve. Your comment about potholes hits home; I live in fear that one of the wheels on my (much, much cheaper) Porsche will find its way into one .

You've got that right, my friend. As Steve mentioned above - these things are beasts.

I've never seen one in the flesh either, brother Bob. Porsche has yet to offer a GT2 version based on the new 911 architecture - if they do, it'll be over the top, I'm sure . . . . . and will be priced astronomically.

Such things, of course, are personal and subjective, but in this case I love both. The early "930" turbo in my previous thread is sexy and audacious, while the GT2 is voluptuous and very, very wild.

The early "930" series of 911 Turbos with 3.0 L mills made 245HP and could hit 60 mph in 5.0 sec with a top speed of 150 mph and the later 3.3 L cars could reach 160 mph -brutal performance in the late '70s and '80s and not too shabby even now. If your friend's car is in terrific condition, it's worth some real money.
