and I didn't speak Russian but a little eyebrow raising, a little camera indication and I got them to pose.

Shot with natural light from the overhead clerestory windows and supplemented with the building flourescent lighting.

C&C appreciated.

I wish I could do a little eyebrow raising and get a picture out of it, unfortunately I'm not as extroverted as you Nice shot, the only critique I have is to teach them how to stand absolutely still at 1/18th of second

Now I'll go and get my self a peach..mmm...

Nice - I like the gesture she's making. I wonder what she was saying to you? The fruit in the foreground is somewhat competing for my attention, what with the rich colours and being more in focus, but the woman's gesture saves it, keeps drawing me back. Well caught!

Nice capture Clarence. I like photos that give me the opportunity to tell a story about them. She looks like she's explaining to her friend all about weird American photographer type people.

Thank you all. What was interesting about the vendors in this market, the women had no trouble posing but the men were stiff and fierce looking. Regretably, due to the low light and my refusing to use flash, this is the only people shot that came out, though I would have loved to have shown you the beautiful countinance of the pickled vegetable vendor, but alas my hand was too shakey and the trip back to do a reshoot would be too expensive. The pickled garlic was out of this world though. Yum!

Oh.. I forgot.
Did you notice that the lady to the left is married.
In Russian speaking countries they have the ring on right hand.

Jusa, yes this is a food market in St. Petersburg, Russia.

I had noticed that she was married from the ring too. When I first went to St. P. there was a coworker who was single, when next I came she had the ring on her right hand and I understood that she had just been married.

I agree with you, the world is a fantastic place and I wish I could see more of it...but the getting there just about kills me...to much sitting in one place for too long. Where are the Star Trek teleporters when you need one?

Star Trek Teleporter
If the teleporter was on the market for sale,,..I probobly would buy it,,.
Then when I think about it,
the risk is that I would be so stressed to see everything on our planet,
that I skouldnīt have the time to look and remeber all places.

But sure itīs should be a very nice gadget.

Hi Clarence!

If to not pay attention to " technical lacks of a composition " this good hit - in " emotions of these women " is, that to typically postSoviet society - weariness and sadness, through the forced smile... By gesture that " suggested to pay attention "to you to that thin woman... Type: " Look what man of us photographes, etc. " But as a photo - the moment not the reporting ... Approaches to " casual hit " more...

The best regards!

P.S. These women are more similar on "survived", than on joyful...

This is a very cultural shot - social documentary photojournalism

The gesture plus the smile with slavic look is really warming (my best buddy in medical school is a russian and I ate in his house for russian food all the time). I still remembered "babushka" trying to feed me, bargain for cheapest things in the local area etc.

Very fun
