Canberra at Night
Posted By: FantasticMrFox, 10-22-2014, 06:00 AM

I spent the least year studying in Australia's generally unloved capital, Canberra, and found the city to be one of the greatest places to live on earth (recently confirmed by the OECD ).

Occasionally I took my K-r and tripod out at night and shot some of the iconic buildings. Here are some results, all shot with the DA L 18-55 kit.

Australian Parliament

15 sec., f/11, ISO 100 at 18 mm

Parkes Way

30 sec., f/11, ISO 100 at 28 mm

Skyfire 2014

2 sec., f/5.6, ISO 250 at 35 mm

Australian War Memorial

15 sec., f/9, ISO 100 at 18 mm

National Museum of Australia

13 sec., f/9, ISO 100 at 23 mm

Exactly. Most Australians seem to know Canberra only from political media coverage and maybe the odd school trip to Parliament and Old Parliament House. They've never been to Namadgi or Tidbinbilla, they've never cycled around the lake in autumn or sat outside one of the many bars in Civic on a warm summer night.

As Canberra is projected to grow to over a million people until 2050 (or so), maybe keeping the city's perk a secret is not such a bad idea after all - less people to have to share it with
You deserve a job with Visit Canberra or Tourism Act.

I can't tell whether that's a compliment, mockery or neither

Anyway, having left Australia that's not an option

Compliment.

You do a much better selling Canberra's virtues than any of the silly marketing campaigns' the paid "professionals".
