Portraits with new Pentax 645.
Posted By: christophleipzig, 10-29-2014, 01:43 PM

Aka portraits with my new Pentax 645 from 1984... with film. Kodak TMax100 and Ilford PanF plus 50.

I bought this camera some weeks ago in St. Petersburg. These are some results of my test-shootings.

#1 Ilford 50. Like it came out of the scanner. No adjustments. Stativ, two lamps and a patient friend.

#2 Ilford 50

#3 Kodak 100 hand-held ½ sek. I don't know, why it somehow worked.

#4 and #5 contrast tests.

this picture of the girl is an absolute masterpiece.
Wow. Thank you. Well. I think, it is a solid photo, which I really like. Masterpiece I really would not use as a word. It was actually one of my test shots and the girl, my friend, is even not sharp. Her fingers are! But I sure I like it anyway.

Nice! Those old film cameras still work great! Good job!
Thank you. And yea, they still work really good. This Pentax 645 has been in all respect yet an fantastic investment. I got already so many hours of work with it done and learned things, I had forgotten.

My opinion (and obviously this is not the absolute truth) is that a masterpiece is a picture that is able to communicate a lot of things to the viewer, emotions. I don't think that the "perfect" focus is something that makes a great photography, rather it makes a picture taken with a perfect tecnique, good for a photography book.
But, can it communicate the same emotions of a great "not perfect focus" picture?
Is photography more about tecnique or communication?

You get a point. Both is definitely important. I am not a fanatic with sharpness. I didn't wanted to give that impression.

Two other photos from the last week. Same camera.

#1 Lake near Rovaniemi. Ilford PanF plus 50.

#2 Kodak TMax 400.

May I ask what lens you used for the last portrait? I'm looking for a wide angle lens for my Pentax 645N and that portrait is beautiful!!
