Originally posted by GeoJerry I like this a lot. Great composition, and I like the grainy texture that lends the image a cool artistic quality. However, there's a concentric ring shaped artifact on the lower left that looks something like a fingerprint - what is causing that? Can it be removed?
sigh, yep that artifact is called a "newton ring" and I suppose if I rescanned that frame I could get a cleaner scan.
That is caused by placing the negative between two pieces of glass and the glass not being perfectly flat, nor the negative, there are points of contact rather than all contact. The scanner picks those points of contact out and displays them with the banded rings.
At this time, I cannot rescan the negs, they went in the trash after scanning, and I am not digging them out.
The grain was caused by over development, (hot developing), and was actually a mistake, but yeah, I liked the composition myself , thanks!
