Jenny in Wonderland
Lens: FA 50 f/1.7 + FA 77 Limited Camera: K-5 IIs
Posted By: MadMathMind, 11-01-2014, 01:39 PM

One of my wife's hobbies is to make clothes for Takara Jenny, the Japanese equivalent of Barbie (except without the Valley girl accent). These are some of her creations. It also gave me a chance to test the new FA50 f/1.7 I just acquired (in a mostly lateral upgrade from my F50, but whatever). But, of course, I took a few with the Legendary FA77 Limited!

FA 50 @ f/5.6, 1/15s, ISO1250

Follow the link and pixel peep the above one (the dress). It seems the reviews of the FA50 f/1.7 are not crazy--the F50 f/1.7 it replaced is not that sharp!

FA 77 Limited @ f/4.0, 1/40s, ISO800

Ha, great outfits! I especially like the bunny outfit, because its not the typical "bunny" outfit for pretty women

I can only take credit for taking the photos--well, and picking this background to use! She has a whole bunch of them; their a cloth-like material and cost like $1.50 shipped within China, so we stock up when we visit. She just wanted to take some other photos but when I spotted that one, I knew we had to do the Alice doll too!

She says thanks! The bunny suit was actually the costume that started it all. She saw one on eBay but it was outrageously priced. She thought "I bet I could make one of those!" and it's become a great hobby of hers ever since!

A hobby you can share, now there's a thought... nah I'm better flying solo and leaving Lady Kerrowdown to her own devices.

Interesting imagery, liking the backgrounds too.

Good idea for a shoot. The stand in the first photo is a little bothersome...

Thanks, everyone! We're both happy to see such interest in this. We have something really different and special planned for our next photoshoot. (No, the dolls will not be naked, sorry!)

With short dresses, all the stands we have show. I'm going to try to engineer a solution with magnets for the next attempt.

Did you project the background or are they hanging. Good work either way.

They are printed on a canvas/cloth material, so we just hang them up. They are of medium print quality but seem to look good on camera; subtle use of bokeh hides their lack of sharpness.
