Lucky you! I met a lovely praying mantis named Daisy last year, but her egg-sac never opened.

The oothecas will open when it gets warm enough and there could be a lot more than 10 babies.
The dark colors of yours are interesting, ours are either green or tan.

WOW! Like the photo. And a little jealous; I've never seen a baby mantis before, only adults. Maybe I need to go looking, or get into macro photography!

Melbourne Australia :
I start to see them October ... ( Spring )
Most of the Baby Mantis are in the Blue Berries ...
When they get older they start to spread out ( Turn green ) and inhabit other plants around the house .

I'm in Mildura, Australia, however blue berries aren't often grown here, because we don't get cold enough. Perhaps I need to do some investigating to see where else they like to be

That is a cool creature, and a great capture as well!

Passionfruit plants ...
Unfortunately my brother trimmed the heck out of ours this winter , haven't seen any mantis on it yet ...
They like thick brushy plants for cover .. The sort that attract small insects , that the mantis can feed on ( Its a tiny world they live in )

Imagine painting a pin black , then hiding it on a bush , that's what its like finding them .. Their bodies are about 10mm ATM , and they blend in horribly well ..

Love that photo!
Thanks for the info, I have plans to plant some passion fruit (I've got a 1 acre block, to build on, already have 15 fruit trees planted). It's amazing what exists in our back yard, once you go looking.

I usually avoid macro section and particularly bugs, but baby mantis, had to see that one.... yuck. I fall for this so often...gotta stay away from these from now on.

Great photo.

Great photo.
Avoid bugs? Is that a phobia? I don't look at spider or snake photos, because I don't like them. Or if I do, I don't touch the part of the screen they are on (or page). Stupid I know, but they are ick!
