Maybe I haven't seen a lot of flamingos, but this one for sure looked too strange to/at me.

Strange for sure! On a side note, how are you liking your DA L 50-200? I sold mine shortly after I got my kit, and sometimes wonder if I jumped the gun a bit, as my copy was decent, and it's considerably smaller than the lens I replaced it with (Pentax F 70-210mm).

This is an old photo I gave the whole crossed out kit from my signature to my father this summer. Now, DA L 50-200... I had funny relationship with this lens. When I got it back in 2007, I was positively surprised by how much more special the photos looked compared to kit lens. With time, I grew more and more frustrated with it, not being sharp, hunting, etc.... to cut the long story short, I was expecting too much from the lens, keeping shutter speed to low due to poor high ISO performance of K100DS and having poor technique. Now looking back, I think it's a very good lens in good light and very compact. I wouldn't mind using it with a camera of decent ISO performance in daylight. For indoor use it's not good. For fast moving objects you need a shiny day.

My feelings, as well. I have a Pentax 35-80 that gets absolutely roasted in the reviews, and I couldn't give it away on eBay, but if I set proper expectations, give the lens some proper light -- I get some great results. And it has really fast autofocus, too. I'm going to post a photo that I took with that lens, that I really like. I'm also proud of it, as it won a local photo contest a couple months back, and is currently on display in a small gallery through December.

Just goes to show that you can get nice results with most any lens, so long as you set the proper expectation
