Driving around

I had a friend in the back snapping the photos. I just read him out settings to change depending on how they looked.

well for an exposure of 5 seconds, i doubt he was going above the speed limit

It's also worth a try, if you are a passenger, to hold the camera outside the car, pressed against the door. Or the roof. Just make sure that neck strap is tightly wound around your hand so you don't lose your camera.

Yeah, though it would also hit the mirror, and people usually don't hit stuff with their mirror when driving (though my father once hit another cars mirror... and some jerk on a bike hit my mirror in a traffic jam...).
