The Duck

The Duck is a natural formation on Comb Ridge in SE Utah. Ducks were prominent in Anasazi mythology. No idea what role this rock played, if any.

I don't think the tree to the left adds to the photo. I would have taken photo from in front of the tree.

Perhaps this is what you had in mind but it does not show the beautiful cliffs where the duck lives.

The cropped image does show off the duck better but I agree with you that the broader context helps frame the situation. You might try a crop that is somewhere in between, just to get rid of a bit of the dark shrubbery without being so drastic. It might also help get the duck from being center frame, where it gets lost in its surroundings.

Actually the second photo is not a crop, just reduced in size to fit forum rules, as was the original. My intent is to show the duck in context. If I take out the shadowy tree I lose much of Comb Ridge Wash. But I do appreciate the suggestions.
